| 6 DEAD, 60 HURT:
REPORTED ATTEMPT WITH TIME-BOMB
27 MINUTES AFTER HIS SPEECH Twenty-Seven minutes after Hitler ended a hysterical speech in the Buergerbrau Beer Cellar at Munich last night--a speech in which he cried that he was ready for a five-years' war with Britain--the building was shaken by an explosion which killed six members of the "old guard" of the Nazi party, and injured sixty other people. Hitler had already left and was not hurt. He left earlier than he originally intended as he was summoned back to Berlin by important State business. The identities of the dead and injured are unknown, it is officially stated, says British United Press from Berlin this morning. Police admitted that the explosion was due to an "explosive body"--not to a defective boiler, as was suggested at first. The official statement says that the outrage was inspired by foreign agents and a reward of 25,000 pounds has been offered for the discovery of the perpetrators. As reported by the Daily Express
Two R.A.F. pilots of the Coastal Command, patrolling over the North Sea yesterday, won a fight with three Nazi planes.
Back at his base, he said: "The fight took place 100 feet above the sea. A Heinkel seaplane came out of the clouds above and behind me. "He tried to get on my tail. I did a steep turn and my air gunner and I got in bursts at close range. The enemy plane dived into the sea and sank"
After the fifth dive the flying boat went down, partly out of control. The British rear gunner reported the approach of a second Nazi flying boat during the fight. The pilot waited till he had settled the first machine; then he turned on the second and silenced its front guns. He made three close circuits while his rear gunner shattered the enemy's wings and engines. Then, without a bullet left, he turned for home. As reported by the Daily Express |
